Hey Reader,

Welcome back to Living Better—your ultimate playbook for a life well-lived. We serve up heartwarming stories, science-backed wisdom, and eye-opening insights that'll inspire you to elevate your game.

Time and time again psychology, sociology, and behavioral science studies have identified faith as a crucial component for personal growth, relationships, and community involvement.

Your faith defines who you are.

Today we'll examine how faith, or the act of valuing intrinsic pursuits over external goals like wealth, status, or physical appearance, can not only define you, but positively impact your life.

Today's Sneak Peek...

How Faith Defines Who You Are

1. Faith In Personal Values

What are the beliefs that anchor your decisions, shape your actions, and define your sense of self? Understanding these can illuminate the path to a more authentic and fulfilling life. Let these beliefs guide you; you’ll be surprised how far they’ll take you.

2. Faith In Humanity

Do you believe in the inherent goodness of others? How you see the world acts as reflecting glass. This belief shapes your sense of connection, community and, optimism. As a result, your interactions and perspective of the world will either be enriched or damaged.

3. Faith In Yourself

How strong is your self-belief? It's the fuel for personal growth, success, and resilience. The more you believe in your capabilities, the more you'll unlock your potential and achieve your goals.

4. Faith In Overcoming Adversity

Life's challenges are inevitable, but faith—whether in a brighter future or in your own resilience—offers a wellspring of strength and hope during the toughest times. Having a long-term view, knowing who you are, and taking action are all key elements of this faith.

5. Faith In God Or Spirituality

Faith in a higher spiritual power often acts as an anchor in life, providing you with a sense of purpose, guidance, and comfort in times of uncertainty and challenge. It transcends mere belief, shaping daily practices, influencing moral choices, and fostering a sense of connectedness to something greater than oneself.

Quote

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny."

- Mahatma Gandhi

Poetics: The Power Of Thinking

I’d like to leave you with one of my favorite poems which exemplifies the importance of having faith and taking life head on:

If you think you are beaten, you are

If you think you dare not, you don't,

If you like to win, but you think you can't

It is almost certain you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost

For out of the world we find,

Success begins with a fellow's will

It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are

You've got to think high to rise,

You've got to be sure of yourself before

You can ever win a prize.

Life's battles don't always go

To the stronger or faster man,

But soon or late the man who wins

Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN!

- Thinking by Walter D. Wintle

This week, we're highlighting Robert's touching story:

"Today I was picking up lunch for a doctor’s office. As I was standing there, waiting on my order and checking emails, I heard a gentleman say, ‘I'd like to purchase something to eat but all I have is $5.’
The gentleman was wearing a backpack and holding a $5 bill. He appeared to be homeless, or dealing with hard times. As he asked about a few items on the menu, he discovered he may need more than $5.
The lady at the register began to offer some suggestions to help him. She then asked him what he wanted to drink and said, ‘Don’t worry about it. Your breakfast is on me.’
I took this picture for a couple of reasons.
It would have been so easy to turn around and ask the manager to step in or for help, but she didn’t. She just said, ‘Hey, it’s on me.’ She could have just given him water and taken his money and gone on to the next customer, but again, she didn’t.
I’ve been in customer service for a long time. I’ve been through some of the best training, and yet a girl named Karina in a Chick-fil-A in Jackson, Mississippi managed to teach me the value of humility and taking care of your customers in just a 3-minute conversation with a customer.
It’s not just the nuggets that make this place successful. It’s people like Karina.”
